What to Expect from Periodontal Disease Treatment
To address periodontitis, the next level of periodontal disease, scaling and root planing procedures are typically done and may be coupled with ARESTIN for antibiotic periodontal therapy. To begin, Dr. Gardy will perform the SRP procedure by using a root scaler and hand tools to remove built-up plaque from your gum pockets. The tooth root surfaces will then be evened out or planed to minimize the areas where disease-causing bacteria might accumulate. Afterward, ARESTIN will be administered directly into the infected area. ARESTIN can be applied during the same visit as your SRP procedure or at a follow-up visit, depending on what you prefer. After your gums are treated, it's important to maintain an oral hygiene regimen at home to assist with healing.
